Who we are
The International Women’s Club of Sarajevo (IWCS) was founded in 1997 to promote friendship and mutual support for women of all nationalities. It is a member of Open Door, a network of International Women’s Associations from 32 member countries. IWCS has a current membership of over 125 women from 28 countries. The IWCS supports cultural activities and provides opportunities to enhance member’s appreciation of the life and culture of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The IWCS is a non-religious, non-profit and non-political organization. Membership is open to women of all nationalities and the club’s official language is English. Members receive a membership directory and a monthly newsletter via the internet or in hard copy.

What do we do
The IWCS raises funds through various events and programmes to help selected charities and humanitarian causes throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina. Of special interest are causes that are concerned with women’s issues, education and health care. The funds are administered and distributed by the Humanitarian Action Committee.
The Holiday Spirit Bazaar has been the club’s major fundraising event for the past 9 years. The entire community eagerly anticipates the Bazaar each year as it showcases local and international handcrafts and offers a chance to enjoy international culinary fare provided by numerous embassies.
General Monthly Membership meetings are held every 1st Wednesday of the month. The programme may include a guest speaker, short film, or cultural presentation. The meetings also offer members a chance to socialize and learn more about each other and about the many activities, outings and events sponsored by the club that month. In addition, members and newcomers are invited to enjoy a weekly coffee and a chat in an informal, friendly environment, often at a member’s home
IWC also offers a lot of fun, regular activities that addresses the various interests of its members. Up-to-date-details about the actual timings, venues, etc., are restricted to members of the group (and available on the members-only part of this website). Each activity or group is run by one or more of the members, and members are always encouraged to start new activities if they have an interest or skill in a particular area. This list will give you an idea of the kinds of activities we organise.
